ZDnet: Best Web Office Software
Tuesday, February 21st, 2006ZDNet’s Web 2.0 explorer has made a list of the best web based office software available. Microsoft’s OfficeLive is only an added service to its core product, Office, and isn’t given top honors. Out of the few listed I’ve only used Gmail and Writely (an online word processor), and while Gmail is very nice I prefer using Office Word over Writely. It’s not a fair judgement just yet, as Writerly is still very much in beta, and for being web based, it is pretty nice. I’ll have to give the rest a go. Web based tools are great because for one they are free (or much cheaper than desktop software) and you can use them from any workstation, wherever you are. I definitely use some of Yahoo’s tools: and , that works for me right now.
The list of the best web office software as given by ZDnet is as follows:
Best email service:
Gmail
Best word processor:
Writely
Best spreadsheet:
NumSum
Best calendar:
30 Boxes, CalendarHub (a tie?)
Best project management tool:
BaseCamp
and finally best mini-suite:
Zimbra
